Published as a contribution to the Shire celebrations of the 150th anniversary of European settlement in the district. It documents a pictorial record starting from 1836 when Kenneth Clarke first arrived in the valley. It contains numerous black and white photographs of the people and places, documenting the growth and changes to the town and district over time. The book is divided into five specific periods:
- The First Thirty Years 1836-1866
- Consolidation 1866-1896
- Progress 1896-1926
- Changes of Fortune 1926-1956
- The Valley of the Future 1956-1986
